Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop set for February 2019
12/26/2018

The Wisconsin Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program is offering its 21st annual winter workshop at Treehaven Field Station, Feb. 15-17, 2019.

The workshop offers hands-on classes taught by experienced instructors. Participants select four outdoor activities from 24 options, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, campfire meals, rifle markswoman, wellness tea, build an ice fishing rod, winter skin care and can cooker.

"BOW provides a safe learning environment where participants can try new activities, build confidence and get outdoors," said BOW Director Peggy Farrell. "BOW gives participants the opportunity to learn in the company of other women, providing an atmosphere of camaraderie rather than competition. Research shows that adult women prefer this supportive approach that allows them to set personal goals and progress at their own pace."

BOW is a nonprofit, educational program open to anyone 18 years old or older. All equipment is provided, and no experience is necessary. All classes are suitable for most adults and ability levels.

The workshop costs $399 per person, which includes four classes, two-nights lodging, seven meals, instruction, equipment use and entertainment. Registration is open until Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, and space is limited.

BOW is sponsored by the UW-Stevens Point College of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. More than 80 BOW workshops a year are offered in 38 states and six Canadian provinces.
