Learn to sew through UW-Stevens Point
Learn how to sew and create a garment in a class offered by the Continuing Education program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
“Learn to Sew” will be held for teens and adults from 5–7 p.m. on the Wednesdays of July 18 through August 8. The cost is $40. Participants will learn the basics of clothing construction and use an easy skill skirt pattern of their choice. The basics of a proper fit and how to achieve it will also be covered. Come to the first class with a pattern, fabric that has been prewashed and all thread, zippers, elastic and other notions as noted on the pattern.
Instructor Barbara Cirmo works in the UW-Stevens Point Department of Theatre and Dance Costume Shop. She also teaches pattern drafting, costume draping and sewing techniques classes. The class will meet in the Costume Shop, located in the Noel Fine Arts Center, where there are sewing machines, sergers, irons, scissors and an industrial blind hemmer for use by participants. Students may also bring their own sewing machines.
