UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, UW-Eau Claire,
UW-Stevens Point earn ROTC honors
The Northwoods Battalion
— which includes the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and partner
ROTC programs at UW-Stout,
UW-River Falls and
UW-Eau Claire — was honored as the 2015 Overall Top Program by the 3rd Army ROTC Brigade for its logistics, administration, recruiting and retention and operations.
Additionally, the four schools were named Best in the Brigade in the recruiting and retention category.
It is the first time the battalion between UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point has won the overall award. It competes against 42 ROTC programs that stretch from northern Michigan to southern Missouri.
Although the logistics, administration, and recruiting and retention categories rate the program’s administration, the operations category assesses student cadets based on their grade-point average, physical fitness and leadership as measured by their placement on the nationwide Order of Merit List.
All five of the UW-Stevens Point ROTC senior cadets seeking active duty were selected to serve as lieutenants in the U.S. Army after their May 2016 graduation. Three of the university’s cadets were named Distinguished Military Graduates for being in the top 20 percent of cadets nationwide. The honor is based on high scholarship, evidence of high moral character, military aptitude and demonstrated leadership ability.
UW-Stevens Point has been on Victory Media’s list of Military Friendly Schools for the past six years. The recognition is based on the university’s support and academic program offerings for veterans and on feedback from student veterans.
