School of Education Course Requirements

Please follow the link above to read about changes to the program which might affect you. If your major is Early Childhood, Elementary, Physical Education, or Special Education, you may need your graduation plan adjusted.

ACTFL OPIc and WPT Assessments

Students with a teaching major or minor in French, German or Spanish must pass the ACTFL OPIc and WPT exams prior to student teaching, regardless of their major/minor GPA.

Since these are skills-based assessments in speaking and writing, the assessments there are no "study" materials available. Instead, students should practice speaking and writing in their language on a regular basis.

The Tutoring and Learning Center offers general language tutoring that students can take advantage of in order to increase their language development. Students should also consult with faculty in World Language Education to discuss their preparation for the ACTFL OPIc and WPT assessments.

Praxis Subject Assessment Preparation Flashcards

Students who do not earn a 3.00 GPA or higher in their teaching majors and minors must pass the Praxis Subject Assessment in order to be licensed. Information regarding standardized tests required for majors and minors is available in the most recent edition of the School of Education Undergraduate Advising Guide. This information contains registration directions and required tests by major/minor. NOTE: French, German and Spanish teaching majors and minors must take the ACTFL OPIc and WPT regardless of major/minor GPA.

The School of Education Academic and Career Advising Center has Praxis Subject Assessment flashcards for all of our teaching majors and minors, except French, German and Spanish.

These flashcards available for a free, one-week check out. To reserve a set of flashcards, please contact the School of Education Academic and Career Advising Center at 715-346-2040.
