Discover the keys to making management easier and more rewarding by understanding your role as a supervisor. Gain practical skills needed to be an effective manager. This is a five session certificate program. All five sessions must be taken to receive a Certificate of Completion. Sessions are schedule once a month on a Friday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Materials and lunch are included in the cost.

‭(Hidden)‬ Justin Rueb, Ph.D.

Justin Rueb, Ph.D.

Justin Rueb, Ph.D. is an independent trainer and organizational consultant specializing in leadership, team-building, and organizational culture and climate. He has worked with a variety of organizations in the military, academic, and corporate sections. He has performed research in areas as diverse as human factors, cognition, motivation, systems design, human resources, leadership, statistics, and sexual harassment, having authored over 80 articles/presentations.

A nationally recognized speaker, Justin has presented papers at numerous prestigious conferences, including the Academy of Management, Society of Industrial/Organization Psychologist, American Psychological Society, and Human Factors Ergonomics Society.

Justin received his Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is currently a full professor of Industrial Psychology at UW-Stevens Point.

For 22 years, Mary Jae Kleckner has been helping traditional and non-traditional students develop the organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills they need to optimize career success. She has taught Small Group, Occupational, Oral/Interpersonal, and Written Communication courses at UW-Madison, UW-Stevens Point, and Mid-State Technical College, and conducted professional development workshops in both the public and private sector. Her non-academic work experience includes both supervisory and communication roles at Vail Resorts, UW-Platteville, Krause Publications, and the U.S. Army.

Mary Jae is a Wisconsin native who has also lived in Illinois, Kentucky, Washington state, Arizona, and Colorado. Her travels have taken her to 49 of 50 states. In addition, she has visited Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, China, and Cuba. Her favorite place on earth, however, is Wisconsin’s own Driftless Area, where she loves to ride her 2010 Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob.

Janene Beck-Hafner's background is in education and leadership. She has led and mentored colleagues, delivered strategic consultation, collaborated across organizational divisions and stakeholder groups, led change, and developed effective strategies to overcome barriers, with a shared solution-focused approach to problem solving. She developed the talent networking strategy for Inclusa, Inc., connecting with key community stakeholders to develop talent networks that support and enriched the colleague acquisition process and enhanced colleague retention. She is currently a Senior Organization and Leaderhsip Development Partner at the Marshfield Clinic Health System, supporting the design, development, and implementation of the Leadership Development Program, Change Leadership, Team Building, Team Development, and Individual and Group Coaching. She is owner of Effective Organization Consulting, LLC, established in 2021, supporting organizations with transformational organization development. 

Janene has previously served as the Organization Development Consultant and Director of Community Resources/Provider Relations for Inclusa, Inc., and as the Director of Pupil Services and High School Associate Principal in the Unified School District of Antigo. She earned a Master of Science and Master of Arts Degree in Education and Educational Leadership, and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Leadership.

Prior to establishing her own, business consulting and coaching practice, Wendy enjoyed a 30 -year career in Financial Services as a Director and Sales Leader in the Commercial Banking, Treasury Management Specialty. Working for regional and global institutions, Wendy managed Midwest sales teams in addition to advising fortune 100 firms, large and mid-market manufacturers, agricultural and service organizations, such as, insurance, healthcare, government agencies, non-profits, trade consortiums and education.

In addition to being a life-long central Wisconsinite, Wendy continues to carry the Association of Financial Professionals, (CTP) Certified Treasury Professional credential and a Business Consulting and Coaching certification from EverCoach. She earned a BBA from Marian University in Fond du Lac, WI. 

A culmination of Wendy's professional interests and talents now live in the firm she calls the Weden Group LLC (WedenGroup.com). Successful ​professionals and business leaders choose to work with her to ramp up disruption in four main areas to create major change. ​

Session 1 | Introduction to Supervisory Management

​Gain a clear understanding of your role as a frontline supervisor or team lead and the core skills needed to lead people effectively in today’s workplace.

  • Clarify your role and responsibilities as a supervisor​​

  • Navigate the transition from co-worker to supervisor with confidence and credibility

  • Build self-awareness to strengthen communication, decision making, and working relationships:

Session 2 | Daily Supervisory Practices

​Gain practical, day-to-day management tools to effectively lead people, set clear expectations, and address performance challenges with confidence and consistency.

  • ​Turn organizational goals into clear daily priorities and expectations
  • Set clear standards so employees know what "doing the job well" looks like
  • Delegate work with clear direction, timelines, and ownership​
  • Monitor progress and address performance issues early

Session 3 | Supervising with EQ and Culture

Explore how supervisors directly shape workplace culture through their daily behaviors, decisions, and emotional responses. Learn practical ways to apply emotional intelligence to build trust, manage challenges, and create a positive, productive work environment.

  • Understand organizational culture and the supervisor’s influence on team norms, morale, and performance
  • Recognize how emotions show up at work—and why they matter in supervision
  • Apply emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social awareness) in real supervisory situations
  • Assess your team’s current culture: strengths, stress points, and opportunities for improvement
  • Examine resilience and adaptability,​ and their role in supervision, change, and employee retention
  • Identify practical actions you can take to model consistency, fairness, and accountability​

Session 4 | Communication Skills for Supervisors

Learn practical communication skills supervisors use every day to build trust, collaborate effectively, address conflict early, and support employee performance and accountability.

Session 5 | From Supervisor to Leader

This capstone session helps supervisors integrate the skills they’ve learned, strengthen their leadership presence, and recognize the impact of their daily decisions-providing a vision of how they can grow as leaders in the future.

  • ​Unite communication, accountability, and culture skills into a cohesive supervisory approach
  • Understand how daily choices shape team trust, engagement, and performance
  • Reflect on personal values, strengths, and supervisory style
  • Recognize potential blind spots and common challenges in leading others
  • Gain perspective on how expanding influence can shape teams and outcomes​​
