John Williams is arguably America's greatest living composer. He is best known for his film scores and has been awarded five Oscars and has received 52 Academy Award nominations. He has also composed music for the concert hall, created memorable main themes for TV, the Olympics, and presidential inaugurations. His music has become imprinted in our daily lives, with themes from Star Wars, E.T., Jaws, Saving Private Ryan, JFK, and many others, becoming part of our popular imagination. In this presentation, UWSP Music Professor Emeritus, Lawrence Leviton will examine the life and music of John Williams and will show clips from some his most prominent films. We will take a look at why his music has had such a profound impact on the listener and our experience at the movies.
