Four Session Virtual Certificate Program

Fridays, 9 a.m. - Noon | April 12 - May 3, 2024​


Participants in the Inclusive Excellence Certificate Program will be able to: 

  • Explain the relationship between diverse and inclusive communities and financial, emotional, physical, and cultural sustainability.  
  • Identify how their experiences shape their choices, perspectives, values, and interactions with their colleagues, collaborators, and social relationships. 
  • Take a systems-thinking approach to identify barriers to and strategies for creating sustainable, inclusive cultures that foster access, equity, and belongingn​ess for all. 
  • Serve as allies to their underrepresented colleagues, collaborators, and social contacts. 
  • Feel empowered to take concrete steps for sustainable change within their workplace, organization, or social network to foster inclusivity.  

​Core Curriculum 

This is a four-session certificate program. All four sessions must be taken to receive a Certificate of Completion.

 April 12, 2024 | The Value of Diversity

In this session, participants will learn about the role of diversity in the financial, emotional, physical, and cultural health at the level of an organization or community. Participants will engage in a process to evaluate diversity in their everyday lives and interactions, as well as to determine specific areas in which they personally and professionally may want to make changes.

 April 19, 2024 | Understanding Identity

​How has your experience shaped your perspectives and values? How has your social context created specific insights or blindspots? What can you do to keep expanding your perspectives?

 April 26, 2024 | Fostering Inclusivity in Your Organization, Part I

​How can you be an ally and an agent for inclusivity in your day-to-day interactions? What are some of the pitfalls to avoid? What strategies can be used to strengthen relationships while addressing potential problems?

 May 3, 2024 | Fostering Inclusivity in Your Organization, Part II

In this final session, we will scale up our conversations about diversity and inclusion to evaluate organizations participants are part of. We will engage in an audit process that explores what aspects of an organization’s practices, policies, or design create barriers to access or belonging. Participants will leave with a plan to initiate sustainable change to foster equity.

​About our Presenters

Bethany Redbird

Bethany Redbird, Ed.D. is the School Community Relations Director for the Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Education. Her division works collaboratively with school districts and parents/guardians to address the unique educational needs of Native American students. She has over 6 years of experience providing professional development opportunities that promote diversity, equity and the inclusion of Native American ways of knowing and learning within school curricula and classrooms.  Bethany is a nationally trained Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (SEED) facilitator, and has been co-facilitating SEED groups for 5 years. She currently resides in Black River Falls, WI, with her spouse, two of their children and their rescue dogs. As the spouse and mother of Ho-Chunk tribal members, Bethany had dedicated her career to promoting equity and inclusion within her local school district and community, as well as many other districts and communities within Wisconsin.  

Marcus Lewis ​Marcus Lewis, Ed.D., is an enrolled member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, African American, and a cisgender man.  He has significant work experience in higher education with an emphasis in diversity, equity, and inclusion.  As a nationally trained Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (SEED) facilitator and education leader, Dr. Lewis has dedicated his career to working in higher education administration, Native American education, and inclusive advocacy.  He has presented at the national, state, and local levels about educational equity, social justice, and Native American education. 

Dr. Lewis is one of the founding faculty members of UWSP's Inclusive Excellence certificate, and currently serves a Global Affiliate Scholar and faculty member in the Doct​or of Education in Educational Sustainability program at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point teaching doctoral courses in social justice, leadership, and serves on several dissertation committees.   He is also the owner and founder of Key Change Consulting, LLC, a firm dedicated to promoting inclusive excellence for education, business, and community organizations.  

Cancellation Policy 

Full refunds granted upon receipt of written request to when received 14 days before the start date of each individual workshop. No refunds will be given if cancellation is received less than 14 days before the workshop. Substitutions can be made at any time, but no shows will be responsible for the full certificate program fee.
