This workshop will facilitate and provide support for the work of translating trauma theory and principles into the administration, programming, and interactions that occur within youth-serving programs. Participants will have a basic understanding of trauma theory and principles from the December presentation by Saint A's and will be supported in developing plans, strategies, and practices that support children who have experienced trauma.
Presenter Bio: Quinn Wilder earned his B.A. in Psychology at UW-Madison and an M.S.W. from UW-Milwaukee, while working in a wide variety of youth-serving programs, such as shelter care, residential treatment, respite care, walk-in adolescent and family crisis counseling, as well as camp counseling, training camp staff, and co-founding and directing summer camps. He worked at the UW-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education’s Youth Work Learning Center for 20 years, where he wrote curriculum, taught credit and noncredit courses, and researched youth work and professional development impact. Quinn enjoys bike camping in the Chequamegon, playing and watching (European) soccer, community gardening, making tacos on his bike, or playing Frisbee with his standard poodles in the parks of Riverwest in Milwaukee.

Motivational
Interviewing (MI) is a universal skill that can be applied in almost any career,
especially those that involve helping others. This session will discuss the
foundation of MI or The "Spirit" of MI which is more than the use of
a set of technical interventions, but rather a "way of being. Participants
will also learn and practice MI techniques, strategies, and tools.
Presenter Bio: Megan
Heier has a Bachelor’s in Health Promotion and Wellness from the University of
Wisconsin Stevens Point and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of
Minnesota. With over 8 years of health coaching experience, she has worked with
a variety of populations ranging from students on a university campus, to
patients in a clinic. As the current manager of the MCHS AmeriCorps program,
Megan still puts her motivational skills to use daily both personally and
professionally

In this session, we’ll break down some of these benefits while looking into some extraordinary stories that are told by the common wildlife and natural processes we encounter daily.

Presenter Bio: Tim's background is in applied biological research with an emphasis in conservation biology, tropical biology, and ornithology. He has carried out research in Australia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Panama, and throughout the United States. Tim received an undergraduate degree in biology from Macalester College and a Master’s Degree in biology from Purdue University. He is currently the Manager of Research and Community Science at the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee.
Tim enjoys spending time with his family, playing the ukulele, relaxing at home with coffee and a good book, and fossil-free (green) birding. He was formerly a referee for the Brew City Bruisers Roller Derby League, under the alter ego, Citizen Defiance.
