The Museum has a new home in progress!
Why is the museum moving?
In 2021, the Wisconsin State Legislature approved the demolition and rebuilding of Albertson Hall due to major structural issues with the building. As a result, all departments vacated Albertson to make room for the new facility.
Where is the museum moving?
The museum has moved to a new permanent location inside the Science Building, 2001 Fourth Avenue. Best of all, we will now be situated directly below the Blocher Planetarium in the A-Wing on the first floor, offering visitors easy access to both of our facilities.
When will the museum close?
The museum closed its doors at the end of the spring semester on May 20th, 2022.
When will the museum reopen?
Our goal is to reopen our gift shop, and begin some community programming in fall 2023. However, the full remodeling of our space will occur in multiple phases over the next several years.
What will the new space entail?
We have spent the last two years in ongoing conversations with visitors, UWSP students and staff, and campus administration to determine the best way for the new museum to serve Central Wisconsin. While we are still in the planning stages, we know that the updated space will include fan favorites such as some of our beloved dioramas and dinosaur displays as well as new offerings such as live animals and additional interactives.
