Pattern Name:LINCOLN DRAPE with TASSEL
Pattern Motif:Commemorative
Glass Type:Flint
Era:1860s
Description:50 Favorites - 14 A close variant and contemporary of the LINCOLN DRAPE pattern, LINCOLN DRAPE WITH TASSEL features slightly smaller round ornaments, each sporting an attractive pendant tassel. LINCOLN DRAPE WITH TASSEL is considered, by Ruth Webb Lee, Alice Hulett Metz and other authors, to be more scarce and desirable than LINCOLN DRAPE. But many collectors who participated in the “50 Favorites” project liked the two versions so much, they voted for both. The moldwork on both patterns is remarkably similar. Each features a 39-point star on the underside of the foot and 75 vertical ribs on the lower portion of the bowl. Variants of each can be found with straight or curved mold lines on the stem. The latter appear to be the result of accidental twisting while the stem was still soft. Doris and Peter Unitt selected LINCOLN DRAPE WITH TASSEL as one of the six goblets to illustrate on the front cover of their book, American & Canadian Goblets.
