Ruth Webb Lee remarked, in Early American Pressed Glass, that “FROSTED LEAF has a charm and grace which excels many of the patterns collectible in sets.” She dated the lead-glass pattern to the 1860s because it seem lighter than those typically assigned to the 1940s and 1850s. Her dating of the pattern also correlated nicely with its attribution to the Portland Glass Company of Portland, Maine, which operated from 1863 to 1873. Lee noted it was one of the finest designs produced by the company and observed, in defense of her attribution, that collectors found the pattern “more often in Main than other places.” (50 Favorites catalogue)
