Description:50 Favorites - 18. BULLS EYE WITH DIAMOND POINT has been a long-time favorite with collectors of early American glass. Goblets in this pattern were pressed in an exceptionally bright lead glass, prompting Bob H. Batty to exclaim, in A Complete Guide to Pressed Glass, that “for over-all quality, including glass, workmanship, design and finish, this pattern ranks well up in the top five of the best ten patterns of pressed glass ever manufactured in American.” He implies by this that he considers it first or second. (50 Favorites catalogue) The pattern consists of six bulls eyes with offset diamond-patterned fields below. The bulls eyes, in combination with the somewhat beak-shaped plain areas between each of the lower fields, strongly suggest an owls face, hence collectors'' early designation of the pattern as "Owl." 1860s, by New England Glass Company.
