Conservation Heroes Scholarship Fund

When we talk about conservation heroes, we often think of people like Aldo Leopold, John Muir, Sigurd Olson and Gaylord Nelson.  But conservation heroes come from all walks of life:

…the grandparent who taught us how to fish
…the elementary schoolteacher who showed us her outdoor classroom
…the camp counselor who showed us the stars
…the big brother who took us canoeing for the first time
…the professor who ignited our passion for science and nature

Do you have a Conservation Hero you would like to recognize?

The Conservation Heroes Scholarship fund in the UW-Stevens Point Foundation provides scholarship awards for worthy students in the College of Natural Resources while permanently honoring individual conservation “heroes” from all walks of life.

The idea and inspiration for the Conservation Heroes Scholarship Fund came from UWSP benefactors Dick Cable and Judy Cable-Anderson, who wished to honor the memory of their own conservation heroes and friends, Jeanette and George Rogers.

Scholarships generated by this fund have “Awardees” and Honorees.”  Awardees are the deserving students who are selected to receive the Conservation Heroes Scholarship.  Honorees are the “conservation heroes” who will be publicly recognized each time the Conservation Heroes Scholarship award is distributed.

As the fund grows, we hope to pay tribute to a long list of everyday conservation heroes and inspire the students receiving these awards to aspire to be conservation heroes themselves.

Conservation Hero Scholarship Honor Roll

o   Gifts totaling $2,000 or more (per honoree)
o   Heroes will be publicly listed in conjunction with the Conservation Heroes Scholarship in perpetuity

Past gifts to this fund may be spun off (transferred) to create a new endowment fund dedicated to a specific Hero ($25,000 or more).  Example: Gifts honoring Hero Joe Smith may be transferred to create a new Joe Smith Scholarship Endowment.

Scholarship awards go to worthy students in the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, with a preference to students who are under distressed conditions such as a personal misfortune, hardship, or tragedy.
