Dec. 13, 2023 | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. | Bowler, Wis.
Join Mike Demchik, Ph.D., Les Werner, Ph.D., and
Stockbridge-Munsee Forestry Department as we follow three trees from standing stock to milled wood. In this workshop we will explore how defects move through a log by evaluating the standing stock of three species, cutting them down, merchandising and grading the down logs, and milling them on site. Throughout this process we will discuss:
- Log grading
- Standing stock grading
- Internal rate of return
- Current research on oak and maple
- Milling and defects
- Grading and scaling of lumber
