Usher Policies and Procedures

Usher Description

The Campus Activities and Student Engagement (CASE) Ushers program provides event, customer service, day of registration support for on-campus events. CASE ushers are trained specifically in the areas of money handling, customer relations, conflict resolution, and event management.
CASE Ushers are provided on a first come, first serve basis. Campus Activities and Student Engagement reserves to right to deny any request if ushers have prior commitments.

What CASE Ushers can do:

  • Serve as a professional and courteous source of information and assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • Enforce and promote event policies
  • Receive money, tickets, and Point Cards at specific events
  • Check bags, purses, etc. to prevent the entrance of weapons, alcohol, etc.
  • Control opening and closing of entrances as required
  • Count and deposit money received
  • Hand out programs
  • Assist latecomers
  • Enforce house rules (i.e. no cameras, no carry in alcohol, no smoking etc.)
  • Maintain order, security, and safety of event patrons

What CASE Ushers won’t do:

  • Violate University or building policies, fire code, or local, state, and federal law
  • Endanger themselves or others
  • Perform duties outside of scope listed above unless previously requested and approved

Student Organizations:

In compliance with State of Wisconsin statues pertaining to the handling of state money and to protect the student organization from potential financial conflict of interest, ushers are required for student organization events when admission is charged. CASE ushers are available for assistance with events held or sponsored by campus departments. Usher requests must be made at least two weeks in advance and the form can be found online.

Two ushers will be provided free of charge for up to 6 hours per event for student organization events held on-campus. Ushers are also available for event support for events that do not involve cash handling.

Organizations will be charged for usher services at a rate of $10.00 per hour per usher under any of the following conditions:

  • More than two ushers are requested or required (only fees for additional ushers are applied). Campus Activities and Student Engagement reserves the right to require additional ushers for safety purposes.
  • Ushers are required for more than 6 hours per event (charges apply only for additional hours).
  • Ushers request is made less than two weeks in advance (if usher services are able to be provided). Campus Activities and Student Engagement reserves to right to refuse late requests.

Campus Departments:

CASE ushers are available for assistance with events held or sponsored by campus departments. Usher requests must be made at least two weeks in advance and the form can be found online.

Two ushers will be provided free of charge under all the following conditions:

  • Event is held in the Dreyfus University Center
  • Ushers request is made at least two weeks in advance
  • Ushers are needed for less than or equal to 6 hours (additional hours will be charged at the rate of $10.00 per usher per hour).

Ushers are available at the rate of $10.00 per usher per hour under any of the following conditions:

  • Event is held on-campus in a location other than the Dreyfus University Center
  • More than two ushers are requested or required (only fees for additional ushers are charged).
  • Ushers are required for more than 6 hours (charges apply only for additional hours).
  • Ushers request is made less than two weeks in advance (if usher services are able to be provided).

Please Note:

Campus Activities and Student Engagement reserves to right to refuse late requests.

Campus Activities and Student Engagement reserves the right to require addition ushers for safety purposes.
