There was little agreement between the two candidates seeking the 3rd District Congressional seat during a debate in Stevens Point. Incumbent Democrat Ron Kind and Republican Challenger Tony Kurtz debated at UW Stevens Point’s Dreyfus University Center, where they agreed Washington’s gridlock has to end.

During opening statements, Kind said he is trying to bring everyone together. “I’ve worked very hard with the private sector and with local officials to see if we can get things done, to go past the intense polarization and the hyper-partisanship.” Kurtz believes many of the current representatives including 18-year incumbent Kind are the problem and not the solution. “I think it’s very dysfunctional. I think it’s a toxic environment in Washington D.C. , and I truly think that’s why things aren’t getting done.”
