Richard Schneider said the city of Stevens Point has been good to his family and wants to give back by donating a property affectionately known as Woodtick Woods for use by residents.
Schneider has donated 51 acres, valued at about $100,000 and located northeast of Stevens Point along Highway 66, to the Portage County Parks Department. The property will become part of Jordan Park, a 271-acre parcel that includes the 85-acre Jordan Pond and has the Plover River running through it. The park also includes a picnic area, picnic lodge, open pavilion, showers, boat ramp, trailer dump station, playground equipment, nature center, nature trail, swimming beach and baseball field.
Schneider, 84, was a professor of art for nearly 30 years at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and is known as the designer of the iconic mural that covers an entire side of the Trainer Natural Resources Building on campus.
