A north central Wisconsin native and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has taken on a pivotal role in directing and prioritizing international scientific research on Antarctica.

Jenny Baeseman, 39, who grew up on a farm in the town of Rib Falls and is a 1994 graduate of Marathon High School, was named the executive director of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research in June. SCAR is a committee of the International Council for Science and it helps coordinate, initiate and develop the research scientists from across the planet who conduct on the bottom of the globe.

Baeseman said she sees her new job essentially as a “project management. For a continent.”
