An app that was tested during the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's homecoming weekend to keep students safe is getting statewide attention, even if there still are some kinks to work out.

A UWSP student and teacher are partnering to develop the app to help college students know where their friends are when they are out so they can stay safe.

The app is the next evolution in the Bring a Buddy program, which is designed to encourage students to keep an eye out for one another. The app was started by UWSP student Jenna Furger and the parents of Eric Duffey, a UWSP student who drowned in the Wisconsin River the night of his 21st birthday in March 2012.
