The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
will perform in a concert next week, playing songs that reflect a range of jazz
styles.
Held at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Michelsen Hall
in the Noel Fine Arts Center, the performance will be conducted by Brent
Turney, associate professor of trumpet, and Ryan Tomski, a UW-Stevens Point
2011 jazz studies alumnus. Tomski’s arrangement of “War in Heaven” by The
Raveonettes will premiere in Wisconsin when the Jazz Ensemble performs it.
Part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, the
concert is $8.25 for adults, $5.25 for senior citizens, $4.25 for students and
free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. Tickets

purchased at the door if available.
Turney will conduct Jazz Ensemble performances of
“Fingers” by Thad Jones, “Beyond the Limit” by Bob Mintzer, “Wide Open Spaces”
by Bob Florence, “Skylark” by Hoagy Carmichael, “A Little Minor Booze” by
Willie Maiden, “War in Heaven” and “Take the ‘A’ Train” by Billy Strayhorn.
Tomski will lead the Jazz Band in “I Can’t Stop Lovin’
You” by Don Gibson, “My One and Only Love” by Guy Wood, “Flight of the Foo
Birds” by Neal Hefti, “Kids Are Pretty People” by Thad Jones and “Red Clay” by
Freddie Hubbard.
