history and international studies at UW-Stevens Point!
The Department of History and International Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point can prepare you to be a global citizen. We can equip you to
succeed in a world where people and nations are interdependent, societies are diverse, and life is shaped by
science and technology. By exploring
institutions, ideas and values of human societies, you will learn essential skills in
research, writing and analysis. We aim to
prepare students for advanced degrees or careers in a variety of professions,
including history, law, government, business, journalism and education.
Majors, minors and emphases
history major and history minor are designed for students preparing to teach and for
those interested in such fields as law and library science. The department
requires students to take coursework in U.S., world regional, and
global/comparative history. Students may also take a concentration in race and ethnicity.
in the Department of History and International Studies cover world history and bring a broad
range of specializations to course offerings.
Among the more unusual courses are those in U.S. and global
environmental history, war and propaganda in the 20th century, the history of
science, the history of medicine, public history, the history of Latin America
and the Caribbean, East Asian history, and Southeast Asian history. We also
administer the international studies major and minor, as well as a minor in peace studies.
Putting a history degree to work
majors or minors go on to teach, but they can appropriately seek
jobs in related fields such as the U.S. Foreign Service or government. With a few courses in business and economics,
a history major can enter the business world. History is also one of the
traditional majors for professional study in law, theology, and library
science. A history minor enhances the
teaching possibilities for students majoring in other social science fields, in
international studies or in foreign languages. Click here to learn more about careers open to history majors!
