PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The program will bring together faculty and academic staff from across the UW System charged with teaching Intro to Women’s Studies, gateway courses into all UW System Women’s Studies certificates, minors, and majors.  The goal of the event will be to discuss and identify shared threshold concepts and learning objectives, desired learning outcomes, and strategies for assessment that work well in women’s studies/gender studies/sexuality studies programs or departments.  We are particularly interested in discussing the range of pedagogical approaches, including the most effective high impact practices,  that can be used in these courses to achieve the desired learning outcomes we share.  We are also interested in sharing and exploring the potential for SoTL Lesson Studies for application to key teaching questions in teaching Intro to Women’s Studies.  Participants will look at the work we do through the lens of Inclusive Excellence for the useful perspectives it brings to the work.

Space is limited: Two people per program can be supported to attend (They will be provided lunch and travel in the form of a shared rental of a UW Fleet car for the day or mileage payments (a TER will be provided at the workshop).  Your program/ department may also pay $10.00 per person to send additional participants who are willing to cover their own travel expenses.
