Scholarship for Incoming First-Year Chemistry or Biochemistry Majors (Fall 2024)

Trytten Scholarship

Awarded to an outstanding high school senior entering UWSP in Fall 2024. The total amount of the award is $4,000 spread over four years. A​ppl​y by January 31​​

Scholarships for Chemistry Majors

  • ​Hansen Memorial Scholarship - $1,800
    Created in honor of William C. Hansen, a 1911 UWSP graduate and 7th chancellor of UWSP (1940-1962). It is awarded to a deserving chemistry sophomore. Apply by March 15, 2024.
  • Kaczmarek Scholarship - $2,200
    Provided for by an endowment from Gilbert J. Kaczmarek, a graduate of our department. It is awarded to a chemistry or biochemistry major for distinguished achievement in academics, leadership and a demonstrated potential for success as a chemist. Apply by March 15, 2024.
  • Taraszka Family Chemistry Award - $1,500
    Created by Anthony and Mildred Taraszka to reward successful achievement in chemistry or biochemistry and promote advanced degrees in chemistry, biochemistry or other select sciences. Apply by March 15, 2024.
  • Thalacker-Trytten Scholarship - $6,000
    Provided for by an endowment from Victor Thalacker, a graduate of our department, in memory of his professor and mentor Roland Trytten. It is awarded to a high-achieving undergraduate student majoring in either Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics. Apply by M​arch 15, 2024. 

 

Scholarships for Biochemistry Majors


  • Kaczmarek Scholarship - $1,800
    Provided for by an endowment from Gilbert J. Kaczmarek, a graduate of our department. It is awarded to a chemistry or biochemistry major for distinguished achievement in academics, leadership and a demonstrated potential for success as a chemist. Apply by March 15, 2024.
  • Taraszka Family Chemistry Award - $1,500
    Created by Anthony and Mildred Taraszka to reward successful achievement in chemistry or biochemistry and promote advanced degrees in chemistry, biochemistry or other select sciences. Apply by March 15, 2024.​

Awards

The Department of Chemistry administers 14 awards to recognize outstanding student performance in the chemistry curriculum. The recipient of each award is, in general, decided via a nomination and balloting process by the faculty of the department. Awards are presented annually in the later portion of the spring semester.
