Borrowing Policies
Borrowing Items
To borrow library items, bring them to the Circulation Desk located in Collins Classroom Center Room 130 and present your UWSP campus ID card or UWSP Community Patron card. For detailed loan period information, see our Checkout Periods & Fines and Fees page.
Who can borrow items?
-
Current UWSP faculty, staff and students can check-out materials using their UWSP Point Card ID.
-
Faculty, staff and students of another UW university can check-out materials using their UW institution's identification card.
-
Other visitors who wish to check-out materials will need to obtain a UWSP Community Patron to check-out materials. Community Patron cards are available at the Circulation Desk (CCC 130). You must be a Wisconsin resident at least eighteen years of age and present a valid driver's license or state identification card. If you are under the age of eighteen, you will need parental permission to use the University Library. Forms are available at the Circulation Desk.
-
Proxy Patron status allows one patron to check out books under another patron's identification number. For example, professors may wish to have assistants pick-up or check-out materials for them. In order to set up someone as a proxy, you must submit a written letter or email (libcirc@uwsp.edu) to Circulation. Include your name and UWSP ID number and the names and ID numbers of the people you would like on your proxy list. Also, include the date you want the proxy privileges to expire.
Renewing Items
To renew your items online, log in to My Account, select the items you wish to renew, and click on renew or renew selected. If the item is eligible to be renewed the due date will be extended.
Items can also be renewed by calling (715-346-2540), emailing (libcirc@uwsp.edu) or visiting the Circulation Desk (CCC 130).
Returning Items
- Library items can be dropped off in the book drop located outside the CCC on the south side (next to Lot E).
- Patrons can also return Library items inside the CCC in Room 130 during our posted hours of operation.
- UW System library materials may be returned to any UW System library. These items will not be checked in until they arrive at their "home" library (3-5 business days). You are responsible for all library items on your account until they are completely checked in.
Overdue Items & Fines
You will be fined for overdue, lost or damaged materials. Fines are payable upon return of materials, but the fines are not assessed until the item is checked in. All fines are payable at the Circulation Desk.
Email notices are sent for overdue items. Please notify us if you believe the item was returned. Notices are also generated for fines not paid when overdues are returned. You will be billed for replacement costs plus the accrued fines if a book is held 60 days past the due date. Failure to receive a notice does not relieve the borrower of the obligation to return material on the due date or to pay the fines accrued.
Anyone owing fines or fees amounting to $15.00 or more will not be allowed borrowing privileges until the matter is resolved.
