Academic
Through a cooperative effort, the University of Wisconsin-Eau
Claire, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, and the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point provide students in Central Wisconsin with an
opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. General
degree and pre-nursing courses are completed at UW-Stevens Point,
followed by five semesters of UW-Eau Claire theory and clinical nursing
courses at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Upon successful
completion of requirements, UW-Eau Claire awards the BSN. Pre-nursing
courses are offered by the Biology and Chemistry Departments, and the
Health Sciences Program. Pre-nursing students are advised through the
School of Health Care Professions.
Admission to schools of nursing is competitive. Students must
first apply to their university of choice for admission. The UW-Eau
Claire requires an overall GPA of 3.0 for admission. Once accepted,
students apply for admission to its College of Nursing, where the
sciences minimum GPA is 2.5 and no required pre-nursing course grade
below a “C” is accepted.
If students plan to attend a nursing program other than UW-Eau
Claire, the course of study will vary. Students will need to satisfy
the requirements for the institution from which they plan to graduate.
Faculty
Pre-nursing courses are taught by a diverse and experienced faculty
from the areas of biology, chemistry, clinical laboratory science,
health sciences, and the social sciences.
Facilities
Students have access to teaching and research laboratories in the
Biology and Chemistry Departments, and the Health Sciences Program.
Employment Opportunities
For
graduates of four-year nursing programs, the demand for qualified
nurses continues. Openings exist in many areas, including hospital
nursing, public health, home health care services, and industry.
