Patricia Holland joined the UWSP music faculty in 1994 and served as department chair from 2007 to 2016. An active performer, Patricia is currently principal bassoonist with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, and spends summers performing with various music festivals, including the Peninsula Music Festival (Door County, WI) and the Superior Music Festival (Marquette, MI). As a soloist, she contributes performances of a wide range of repertoire including concertos of Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, Frigyes Hidas, Antonio Vivaldi, Gunther Schuller, and Ellen Taafe Zwilich. Patricia has given recitals and master classes throughout the United States. She has performed at the 1994, 1998 and 2006 Annual Conferences of the International Double Reed Society. She has served as bassoonist and contrabassoonist with numerous orchestras in Wisconsin and in her home state of Michigan, including the Grand Rapids and Jackson Symphonies. In Jackson she was principal bassoon for thirteen years and gave several concerto performances with that orchestra. Prior to coming to Wisconsin, Dr. Holland taught bassoon, music theory, double reed methods, and coached chamber music ensembles at several Michigan colleges. She has also served on the faculty of the Birch Creek Music Camp, Point Arts Camp, Camp COFAC, Jackson Community Music School and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. She received her Master of Music degree from Michigan State University where she was a Halyburton Scholar, and holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan. Her major teachers include Richard Beene, Edgar Kirk, L. Hugh Cooper, and Martha Bowman. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Societies.
