COMPUTING AND NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES

Jason R. Bethke Memorial Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is in memory of Jason R. Bethke. The recipient is determined by the Department of Computing and New Media Technologies.

Jeffrey E. and Sally A. Fiddler Scholarship
The award is in honor of the first dean of the College of Letters and Science, Warren Jenkins, a history professor from 1934 to 1972. Recipient is selected by faculty and available to continuing students majoring in computer technology or related field. The award is applied to fall semester tuition and the following spring semester tuition.

Peter T. and Margaret M. Weiler Family CIS Award
A junior or senior computer information systems major may be eligible for this award, based on scholarship.

Skyward Scholars Scholarship
Students may apply for this award of $1,000 if they intend to major in CIS. Recipients must be from Central Wisconsin, have a cumulative GPA minimum of 3.0, be in the top 20% of their high school class, and demonstrate leadership and scholarship abilities in school or in the community. Applicants must write a brief essay demonstrating their interest and objectives in pursuing a major in CIS as part of the scholarship application. Application forms are available at high school guidance offices throughout Central Wisconsin. Recipients are chosen by CNMT based on student applications. Award is applied to fall semester tuition.

Wildcard Corp. Technology Leadership Scholarship
This award of $1,000 is intended for a declared major or minor within the Department of Computing and New Media Technologies who demonstrates a personal and professional interest in computer systems engineering, programming, hardware, networking and associated technologies. The recipient will demonstrate a passion and interest in technologies, participate in campus activities, extracurricular programs or self-directed knowledge expansion in the computer and technology field. General GPA of 2.75 and a GPA in the major/minor of 3.0 is required.

MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES

Center for Athletic Scheduling (CAS) Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a freshman or sophomore mathematics major. Current and former CAS staff members are not eligible. Scholarship is applied to fall semester tuition.

Charles H. Johnson Scholarship in Actuarial Mathematics
The scholarship is intended for a junior or senior mathematics major with minimum 3.0 GPA and enrolled in or completed at least one actuarial seminar or passed at least one actuarial exam. Recipient is chosen by faculty in March based on applications from students. Scholarship is applied to fall semester tuition.

Freshman Mathematics Cooperative
This $1,000 work study award is intended for a recipient with Central Wisconsin Mathematics League standing, who exhibited scholarship, character, and leadership in high school. Faculty selects the recipient in February.

Howard Thoyre First-Year Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a freshman mathematics, chemistry or physics major or minor. Must have participated in the Central Wisconsin Mathematics League. Recipient will receive the award at the Spring Central Wisconsin Mathematics League Awards Banquet.

John F. Weiler Mathematics Award
The award is intended for a junior or senior elementary education major with mathematics minor who has completed Math 228 and 338, and who has completed or is currently enrolled in Math 255. Scholarship is the sole criteria. Recipient is chosen by faculty in March based on applications from students. The award is applied to fall semester tuition.

Joseph V. Collins Award
This award is intended for a mathematics major who will graduate in December of this year or who will graduate in May or August of next year. Recipient is selected by faculty.

Kenneth W. Boylan Scholarship in Mathematics
Recipients may apply for one of two awards. In the fall, the scholarship is awarded to a mathematics major in the 5th, 6th, or 7th semester. In spring, it is awarded to a mathematics major in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th semester. Scholarships are applied to the following semester’s tuition.

Orville Rice Family Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior mathematics major with minimum 3.0 GPA and a minimum 3.4 GPA in mathematics major courses. Must have completed at least four mathematics-major courses. Recipient is chosen by faculty in March based on applications received from students. Award is applied to fall semester tuition.

A junior or senior mathematics major may be eligible for this award, based on scholarship.

Remer “Bert” Hutchinson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student(s) who is a member of the UWSP College Republicans with a preference is given to a student majoring in mathematics. Amount varies over $1,500.

Remer and Dr. Elaine Hutchinson Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student(s) who is a member of the UWSP College Republicans with a preference is given to a student majoring in mathematics. Amount varies over $1,000.

Stan and Ann Carlson Mathematics Scholarship
This scholarship is available to a current freshman mathematics student who will be returning the following fall as a sophomore. Preference is given to students who previously participated in the UWSP Central Wisconsin Math League for an area high school.

Thalacker-Trytten Scholarship
This scholarship of $4,000 was endowed by alum Victor Thalacker, in memory of his professor and mentor Roland Trytten, and is intended for a high-achieving undergraduate student majoring in either chemistry, physics, or mathematics. It is credited toward tuition over two semesters.

Wayne Grant Wild Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a mathematics major with minimum 3.0 GPA and a minimum 3.4 GPA in mathematics-major courses. Recipient is chosen by faculty in March based on applications from students. Award is applied to fall semester tuition.

William J. Cable Mathematics Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a mathematics major or minor, based on financial need. Scholarships are applied to the following semester’s tuition. It will be awarded in the spring of even years.

PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY

Allen F. Blocher Memorial Scholarship
This award is intended for a physics or astronomy major who will participate in an international internship program during the calendar year.

Arthur Pejsa Future Aerospace Scientist Award
This endowment is designed to recognize a senior majoring in physics who is a prospective aerospace scientist. The award is $1,000, awarded in the spring.

Bainter Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to continuing students, physics majors, demonstrating academic excellence. Financial need is a consideration.

Culver-Rogers Award
This $500 award is intended for the second semester junior with the highest grade point average in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or physics.

Department of Physics and Astronomy Freshman Scholarship
Awarded to an outstanding freshman enrolled at UWSP who is a physics major.

Monica E. Bainter Memorial
This scholarship is awarded to an upper-level student majoring in physics, demonstrating academic excellence, in memory of Monica E. Bainter.

Professor K. N. Razdan Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded by the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Thalacker-Trytten Scholarship
This scholarship of $4,000 was endowed by alum Victor Thalacker, in memory of his professor and mentor Roland Trytten, and is intended for a high-achieving undergraduate student majoring in either chemistry, physics, or mathematics. It is credited toward tuition over two semesters.

William C. and Esther Hansen Memorial Scholarship for Physics and Astronomy
This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore or junior physics or astronomy major with a minimum overall GPA of 3.2, in financial need and has demonstrated volunteer and/or community involvement.
