UW-Stevens Point selects top communications official
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has named Kate Worster executive director of University Relations and Communications.
Worster brings more than 20 years of diverse communications experiences to the position. She most recently served as director of communication at Grinnell College, a position she held for six years. She has worked in communications positions in a number of public and private sector settings and also served as an anchor and news reporter for television stations in Davenport, Iowa, and Revere, Mass.
“I’m pleased to have Kate join us. She brings a distinctive blend of communications skills and experiences to our communications team,” said Chancellor Bernie Patterson. “Her strong leadership skills will be a good fit for UW-Stevens Point and the community.”
Worster earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Grinnell College and pursued graduate studies in communication leadership at Drake University.
“I am pleased to have this opportunity to work with remarkable faculty, staff and students,” said Worster. “Stevens Point is a terrific town, and I am looking forward to getting settled and becoming an active member of the community.”
Worster is the mother of two children, Blake, 15, and Cole, 13. Her volunteer work has focused on literacy, the arts, and the health and well-being of children. Her family enjoys reading, board games, hiking, biking, canoeing and camping.
Her appointment followed a national search. Bill Berry has been serving as interim director of University Relations and Communications since the departure of Stephen Ward, who resigned as director in July to take a similar position at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Worster will officially begin her duties on January 17, 2012.
