Girls to learn about careers at UW-Stevens Point’s Women and Science Day
Area seventh and eighth grade girls will learn more about careers in science and technology at the annual Women and Science Day conference at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, Feb. 24.
More than 400 young women from Central and Northern Wisconsin will take part in workshops and hands-on instruction from women experts in their fields. Presenters include UW-Stevens Point faculty members as well as regional professionals.
A keynote address will be presented by Laura Nelson, M.D., M.B.A., the chief medical officer at the Marshfield Clinic and the first woman to hold this position in the clinic’s 94-year history. She received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, completed her internship and residency at Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital and received her master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas.
During the conference, girls will have the opportunity to learn about biology, veterinary medicine, engineering, chemistry, psychology, health, medical investigation, nursing, natural resources and other topics. Sessions will be held throughout the day at the Trainer Natural Resources Building, Science Building, College of Professional Studies Building, Collins Classroom Center, Health Enhancement Center and Dreyfus University Center. The $30 fee per student or chaperone includes lunch.
