Wind Ensemble to premiere new work by music professor

A premiere, anniversary performance and high school ensemble will be featured during a concert of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Wind Ensemble on Friday, March 9.

Held at 7:30 p.m. at Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., the concert will feature the premiere of “stand. fall. rise again” by UW-Stevens Point Music Professor Mathew Buchman.

In addition, the wind ensemble, conducted by Brendan Caldwell, director of bands, will perform what Caldwell calls “perhaps the most important piece ever written for band,” Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy,” as it marks the 75th anniversary of its creation. Opening the program will be the Kettle Moraine High School Wind Ensemble.

The concert is a part of the Music Department Scholarship Series. Tickets are $7 for the public, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point ID. Tickets are available at the University Information and Ticket Office in the Dreyfus University Center, by calling 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378, or at http://tickets.uwsp.edu. Visa, MasterCard or Discover are accepted. Tickets may also be purchased at the door if seats are available.
