Muslim pilgrimage shared through presentation
An alumna’s journey to Mecca will be shared in the presentation, “The Road to Hajj,” on Thursday, Dec. 1, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in The Theatre in the Dreyfus University Center, the presentation by Fizza Razvi will include personal photos of her pilgrimage to Mecca a few years ago as well as a question-and answer-period.
“The Hajj, a pilgrimage to Mecca, is a sacred migration that evolves a person to become humble and closer to God,” says Razvi. “It is a religious obligation that every Muslim must fulfill, if financially and physically able, at least once in their lifetime.”
A native of Hyderabad, India, Razvi moved to Wisconsin in 1976 to attend UW-Stevens Point and has made it her home. She later earned a certification in special education. Having grown up in a diverse society, she has been interested in humans and understanding their differences from an early age and makes “an effort to learn about them whenever I have the opportunity,” she says.
The event is being sponsored by the Islamic Students’ Association, the Student Government Association and Multicultural Affairs.
