Tappers gathering at UW-Stevens Point
Join in as tap dancers from near and far get in rhythm at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Noel Fine Arts Center August 9-11 as part of the Point Tap Festival 2012.
Registration for classes and the festival show is available online or at the door for the Thursday through Saturday event. Participation options range from the full festival package to single class registrations. Saturday’s Mini-Fest options are popular for participants who are unable to attend during the work week, and open level classes on Saturday invite dancers of all levels to participate, with no experience or tap shoes required.
The festival’s internationally renowned faculty of teaching and performing artists includes Josh Hilberman (Boston), Lynn Schwab (New York), Mark Yonally (Chicago), Brandi Coleman (Chicago) and Jeannie Hill (Stevens Point).
“This year, in addition to the 14 classes, we are excited to host an informal jam session event on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Coffee Studio on Main Street in Stevens Point, which will include festival participants and local musicians,” said Jeannie Hill, associate professor of theatre and dance at UW-Stevens Point and the festival’s director. No tickets are necessary for the jam session, which is open to the public.
The festival show, held in the Noel Fine Arts Center Studio (Room 136) on Saturday at 8 p.m., will feature faculty, guest artists and musicians Ryan Korb, Dave Story, Nic Gauer and David Hastings. Tickets are available at the door for $15 or $12 in advance online.
