UW-Stevens Point student earns music award for piano performance

A University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point music student was recently honored for piano performance by the Music Teachers National Association.

Rie Tanaka, a junior piano performance major from Japan, took first place in the MTNA Young Artist State Competition last month after performing an hour-long solo recital program. Her performance included works from Bach, Schumann and Barber, among others. Her next step towards the MTNA National Competition is divisionals, where she will represent Wisconsin in the MTNA East Central Competition in Michigan this January.

The Music Teachers National Association was organized in 1876 to advance the value of music study and music making to society while supporting teachers of music. Today’s MTNA continues that mission and also seeks to partner in the growth and development of all music teaching professionals.
