UW-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra to perform in concert
The works of Verdi, Bach and Beethoven will be performed by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, March 7.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in UW-Stevens Point’s Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St.
As part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, tickets are $7 for the public, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point ID. Tickets are available at the University Information and Ticket Office in the Dreyfus University Center, by calling 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378 or at http://tickets.uwsp.edu. Visa, MasterCard or Discover are accepted. Tickets may also be purchased at the door if seats are available.
The orchestra, conducted by Patrick Miles, professor of music, will open with “Overture to La Forza del Destino” by Giuseppe Verdi, followed by “Brandenburg Concerto No. 2” by Johann Sebastian Bach. Four Music Department faculty members will be featured soloists on this piece, including Steven Bjella, violin; Julie Hobbs, flute; Stacey Berk, oboe; and Brent Turney, trumpet. The concert will close with Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92.”
The UW-Stevens Point Symphony Orchestra is renowned for its performances of both standard orchestral repertoire as well as contemporary music. Students from all majors audition to become members. Miles has conducted the orchestra since 1990.
