Soirée Musicale goes ‘Around the World in 80 minutes’
Take a musical journey “Around the World in 80 Minutes” at the 14th annual Soirée Musicale at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, April 27.
Held at Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., the Department of Music scholarship fundraiser includes a reception at 5:45 p.m. and performances at 7 p.m. The concert will showcase a collection of styles and genres from classical to popular jazz, representing Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, North and South America and performed by UW-Stevens Point faculty and staff, alumni and Jazz Ensemble.
Admission is $50 per person and includes beverages, a reception of savory hors d’oeuvres before the performances and an after-glow featuring sweet treats. Both the reception and after-glow will include music performances by student groups in the Noel Fine Arts Center Courtyard. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit Soiree Musicale or call 715-346-3841.
All proceeds fund scholarships, primarily for incoming freshmen, which enable UW-Stevens Point to recruit and retain some of the region’s most promising musicians. Soirée Musicale has raised more than $258,000 for music scholarships over the last 13 years, with 40 scholarships awarded last year.
“The Soiree Scholarship is yet another wonderful musical opportunity UW-Stevens Point offers,” said Lydia Hanson, a junior majoring in music with an emphasis in string instruments. “Not only does this scholarship set a higher bar of excellence, it also creates a kind of community in which each student gets the chance to become a skilled artist.”
