Swimming classes for children are available this fall through the Special Needs Aquatic Program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The classes are for young children of all abilities accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children may gain an initial positive water experience, learn safety skills in and around water, and just have fun. In addition, older children with disabilities will have an opportunity to swim or learn to swim.

Five classes will be held Wednesdays on Sept. 19 and 26, and Oct. 3, 10 and 17. The 30-minute classes are held in the therapeutic pool in the UWSP Health Enhancement Center, located adjacent to the Quandt Fieldhouse on Fourth Avenue.

Classes for infant and toddlers, six months to three years, will be held at 5 p.m. Preschool classes for toddlers, ages three to five, will be held at 5:35 p.m.  Cost is $35 for the five classes. Classes for children with disabilities, six to 14 years of age, will be held at 6:15 p.m. Cost varies, depending on support needed.

Early registration is advised, as program space is limited. For registration and more information, contact the School of Physical Education & Athletic Training, 715-346-2706.
