UW-Stevens Point participates in Remembrance Day Friday

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will join more than 175 universities and campuses across the country on Friday, Nov. 11, in paying tribute to the more than 6,300 men and women who died while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The UW-Stevens Point Veterans Club is organizing the local Remembrance Day Roll Call and is seeking volunteers to read the names during 10-minute blocks. The observance begins at 8 a.m. Friday, Veterans Day, in the Dreyfus University Center Pergola. It will continue until 4 p.m.

According to Veterans Club President Zach Ruesch, there will be a moment of silence at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. locally and nationally to remember the sacrifices of those who gave their lives for their country.

In seeking volunteers for the event, Ruesch said, “We hope you are among those few willing to sacrifice a few moments of your life to remember those who sacrificed all of theirs.” Volunteers can sign up online at www.bit.ly/qaFBSj.
