The
songs of African American and Brazilian composers will be featured in a recital
by guest artists at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Vocalist
Marcia Porter and pianist Deloise Chagas Lima will perform on Thursday, April
30, at 6 p.m. in the Noel Fine Arts Center Room 221. The recital is open to the
public, free of charge. Porter will also present a master class to music
students on Friday, May 1, at 9-11 a.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts
Center.
The
performance was rescheduled from Feb. 24.
Both
Porter and Lima teach at The Florida State University College of Music. Porter
is an associate professor of voice. Lima, a native of Curitiba, Parana, Brazil,
is an assistant professor of collaborative piano.
Porter
is an award-winning soprano who has performed throughout the United States,
Italy, Brazil and the Czech Republic and with well-known symphony orchestras
across the world. She specializes in Brazilian song literature and diction and
was a Fulbright Scholar to Brazil. She has also co-taught a course on African
American and Brazilian art song literature.
Lima
has performed as an accompanist and chamber musician across Brazil, the United
States, Europe and South America. She taught at the Escola
de Musica e Belas Artes do Parana for nearly 20 years.
