Portage County Lakes and Rivers Festival at Celebrate Amherst
8/31/2012

Learn how to enjoy, protect and improve the lakes and rivers of Portage County at a Lakes and Rivers Festival held as part of Celebrate Amherst on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The free festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the Amherst Village Garage on Mill Street, next to the millpond. This event is sponsored by the UW-Stevens Point Center for Watershed Science and Education (CWSE), the newly formed Friends of Portage County Lakes and Rivers group, Portage County and the Village of Amherst.
The public may explore aspects of the Amherst Millpond and the Tomorrow River with local professionals, attend water workshops about aquatic plants and healthy shorelands, browse informational booths and enjoy kayaking and interactive children’s programs.
A Portage County groundwater specialist will also conduct testing on location at the festival. Those interested in having their drinking water tested for nitrates should bring water collected that day and kept cool in a glass container.
