Have an ‘Outdoor EdVenture’ this winter

Enjoy outdoor recreation this winter without the expense of purchasing equipment by renting it from Outdoor EdVentures at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

“Winter sporting equipment, such as cross country skis, snowshoes and sleds, is available for rent throughout the season, which is an affordable way to enjoy the area’s many parks, hills and trails,” says Mike Piekenbrock, manager of Outdoor EdVentures and the recreational activities coordinator for the UW-Stevens Point Campus Activities and Recreation Office. “It increases our quality of life if we get out, breathe the fresh air and play,” he adds.

Located in the lower level, Room 002 of the Allen Center, Outdoor EdVentures has equipment for winter sports as well as camping, hiking, biking, canoeing and outdoor cooking. Equipment may be rented for 1, 3 or 7 days, and a fire pit is also available for one-night rental only. Rental prices vary and are discounted for both UW-Stevens Point and Mid-State Technical College students.

In 2012, Outdoor EdVentures will also offer public skills clinics, such as snow shelter building, creating a fire with a bow drill and backcountry cooking, free demonstrations of canoes and kayaks in the spring and adventure trips for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and staff members.

Outdoor EdVentures is open to the public from noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Equipment may also be reserved ahead by calling 715-346-3848.
