Events to raise awareness about proposed Penokee Mine
Several events to raise awareness about the proposed Penokee Mine in Northern Wisconsin and recent attempts to change mining regulations in Wisconsin will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next week.
Sponsored by the Students for a Democratic Society, all presentations are open to the public.
Frank Koehn, an activist against the Crandon mine, will speak on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Dreyfus University Center Theater.
On Friday, March 2, there will be a wild rice dinner and presentations by Al Gedicks, global mining expert and UW-La Crosse professor, and Jim Meeker, world-renowned wetlands expert. Gedicks will talk at 4 p.m. in the Dreyfus University Center Legacy Room. Meeker will give a presentation, “A Natural History of the Kakagon Sloughs Wetlands,” at 6 p.m. in Room 073 of the DeBot Center, 325 Isadore St., followed by a wild rice dinner. Tickets for the dinner are $7 and are available at the Information and Tickets Office in the Dreyfus University Center.
