The key findings and insights from the first year of a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point study of lake conditions in eastern Marathon County will be presented in a public meeting on Saturday, August 25.
Held at the Reid Town Hall in Hatley at 10 a.m., the meeting will review a UW-Stevens Point Center for Watershed Science and Education study that included Rice, Pike, Lily, Mission, Big Bass and Wadley lakes. Project updates will include highlights from the citizen survey, water quality, shoreland survey, aquatic plant and invasive species surveys and lake maps. Researchers will be on hand to answer residents’ questions.
An interactive mapping activity will take place where citizens can identify places around the lakes that hold special meaning or are threatened.
“Understanding where the places people love around the lakes, and where people have noticed the quality of the lake and its resources degrading, is essential in helping us make plans to keep our water resources in a condition everyone can enjoy,” said project member Kristin Floress.
A separate meeting will be held on Saturday, September 15, at the Norrie Town Hall in Birnamwood for people interested in Mud, Mayflower, Norrie, Bass and Lost lakes.
