Pianist to visit UW-Stevens Point for Great Artists, Great Speakers event

A Canadian pianist will visit the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point October 13-14, supported by the Great Artist, Great Speakers Endowment and the College of Fine Arts & Communication.

Jane Solose will perform a piano recital on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall, Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St. The recital will celebrate the centennial anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birthday and will feature an all-Liszt program including the premier of “Liszt Fantasia” by American composer Jeanne van Appledorn.

On Friday, Oct. 14, Solose will conduct a master class with UW-Stevens Point piano students from 3-4:30 p.m. in Room 221 of the Noel Fine Arts Center. Both events are free and open to the public.

“We are very excited to bring Jane Solose to our campus,” said Molly Roseman, associate professor of piano at UW-Stevens Point. “Her performance of an all Liszt program will be a unique and special treat. Solose’s work with our students will be very beneficial. She brings a great wealth of knowledge and expertise regarding the piano literature.”

Solose is an associate professor and chair of the Keyboard Studies Division at the Conservatory of Music and Dance, University of Missouri-Kansas City, and is a Steinway Artist. A native of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Solose received early music training at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and is a graduate of the University of Toronto and University of Western Ontario in Canada, and the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, where she earned the prestigious Performer’s Certificate.

Her active career as a featured concerto soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, duo pianist and master teacher has taken her to Korea, Japan, Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Russia and the U.S. as well as Canada. She is a past winner of the CBC Canada National Radio Competition and received special commendation at the International Vienna Modern Masters Performers Recording Award Competition. She has also released several CDs and has articles published in the journals “20th Century Music” and “Clavier.” Solose recently toured Europe and was invited to perform at the 2011 World Piano Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia.

The Great Artists, Great Speakers Series Endowment was established with donations from hundreds of alumni, community members and friends of the College of Fine Arts & Communication. Earnings from the endowment enable students and the Central Wisconsin community to explore the world of the fine arts and communication by supporting guest artists, speakers and other enriching experiences.
