A summit aimed at finding ways to increase the number of historically under-represented entrepreneurs in the state will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Thursday, Oct. 26.
"Faces of Entrepreneurship" will bring together representatives from business schools within the UW System, private schools and technical colleges as well as economic development and chamber leaders statewide to discuss strategies to increase successful entrepreneurs in Wisconsin. It is open to business, community and economic leaders as well as business students and teachers.
The summit will be facilitated by Melvin Gravely, a nationally recognized speaker, author, entrepreneur and founder of the Institute of Entrepreneurial Thinking. It is a partnership with the UW System and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC).
Speakers and a cross section of leaders will focus on factors that influence entrepreneurship and small business development. Eve Hall, president and CEO of the Milwaukee Urban League and member of the UW System Board of Regents, will serve as the keynote presenter.
Jenny Resch, a UW-Stevens Point specialist in economic development, said the efforts of UW-Stevens Point, UW System and WEDC to organize this summit demonstrate the critical collaboration needed to help economic growth throughout the state of Wisconsin.
"This summit will highlight current barriers and introduce successful programs to increase entrepreneurship among diverse groups," said Resch. "Our goal is to further connect higher education and economic development leaders to address the opportunities for entrepreneurial growth in our communities."
The deadline to register is Thursday, Oct. 12. Business students from any UW System institution can attend free of charge. Registration and the complete schedule can be found at www.uwsp.edu/diversitysummit.
