The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, along with local and state emergency response agencies, will participate in an emergency training exercise on campus this month.
The exercise will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Wednesdays and Thursdays of June 19, 20, 26 and 27. Each morning will include activity in and around Pray-Sims Residence Hall, 501 Reserve St., Stevens Point, and in the afternoons, near the Collins Classroom Center, 1801 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point, and along Isadore Street.
On these days, closures between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. include Isadore Street between Fourth Avenue and Portage Street (with no street parking) and campus parking lots E, P, T, V North, and Y.
Neighbors and nearby businesses may see or hear emergency response vehicles and personnel. Anyone not associated with the exercise is asked to avoid the areas in use.
This joint training exercise with local authorities and volunteers simulates a mass casualty incident. Volunteers will serve as role-playing "victims" to add realism to the exercise scenario.
Please note, this is only a simulation. The exercise provides participants an opportunity to assess capabilities, plans, policies and procedures. It focuses on decision-making, coordination and integration with other organizations.
