The combined voices of several choirs will perform the first vocal concert of the semester, "One Voice, Many Colors," at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The concert will be held in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. The Concert Choir, Choral Union and Campus Choir are under the direction of Shawn Cody Miller, assistant professor and director of Choral Activities in the Department of Music, and the Chamber Singers are directed by Professor Susan Bender.
The Choral Union will begin the concert with "Hallelujah, Amen" from G. F. Handel's "Judas Maccabeus," "If Ye Love Me" by Thomas Tallis, "Jubliate Deo" by Benjamin Britten, "O Love" by Elaine Hagenberg and "Ain' a That Good News" by William Dawson.
The Campus Choir will sing the traditional folk song "Scarborough Fair," "The Pasture" by Randall Stroope and "He Never Failed Me Yet" by Robert Ray. The Chamber Singers will perform Johannes Brahms' Op. 17, "Four Songs," with harp and horns.
The Concert Choir will perform the Gregorian chant "Thee We Adore," and continue with "Cantate Domino by Claudio Monteverdi, "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," "Abendlied" by Josef Rheinberger, "Zigeunerleben" by Robert Schumann and "Nyon Nyon" by Jake Runestad.
Miller is new to UW-Stevens Point this year, having previously served as the head of choir and music education at Indiana University South Bend. He has also worked with high school and church choirs as a guest conductor and clinician and has presented at state and regional conferences. He earned degrees from St. Olaf College, Baylor University and Michigan State University.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
