Families looking for help with applying for financial aid for higher education may attend a free event at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next month.

College Goal Wisconsin will be offered at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at UW-Stevens Point's College of Professional Studies Building, 1901 Fourth Ave., Stevens Point. Financial aid professionals and volunteers will offer help and answer questions about the 2018-19 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). High school seniors, continuing college students, transfer students and adults looking to attend a college or university should attend. The FAFSA must be submitted to be considered for federal and state financial aid, including grants and loans.

UW-Stevens Point is pleased to College Goal Wisconsin, said Mandy Slowinski, director of the Financial Aid office. "With the economy being uncertain and a college education being more important than ever, attending this event is a good idea for every family, especially graduating high school seniors who have no experience filling out the FAFSA."

In addition to getting help with the application, attendees will be able to enter a scholarship drawing. Arrive by 7 p.m. to take full advantage of the resources available.

Attendees should bring 2016 federal tax returns and W2s, 2016 untaxed income records (such as child support and veteran's benefits), information on savings, investments, business and farm assets if applicable, cell phone, social security number, driver's license and information such as parents' dates for birth, marriage, divorce or separation.

UW-Stevens Point is among numerous schools hosting College Goal Wisconsin events across the state through Nov. 8. For more information, about financial aid resources go to www.uwsp.edu/finaid.
