An
exhibit of photographs that blends memories and reality will be on display at
the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point beginning Monday, Sept. 21.
“Capitulos,”
featuring photographic images by Art and Design Professor Guillermo Peñafiel,
will be on exhibit at UW-Stevens Point’s Carlsten Gallery in the Noel Fine Arts
Center through Sunday, Oct. 25. An opening reception will be held Sept. 21 from
4-6 p.m. The event and exhibit is free and open to the public.
Peñafiel’s
photographs feature multiple images from different time periods and his own
heritage, created by blending multiple film negatives which are destroyed in
the making of the new print. “The process is parallel to the way we experience
our personal histories,” he said. “They are one-time events that can be
revisited over and over but only in our minds.”
A
native of Chile, Peñafiel has taught photography at UW-Stevens Point since
1991. He has traveled extensively to collect images in South America, Europe
and Asia. Peñafiel has degrees from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania
and Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas.
Free and open
to the public, the Carlsten Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m., on Thursday evenings from 7–9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from
