Free lecture examines 40 years of culture in Guadeloupe

The Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe is one of France’s four overseas regions and is known for literary achievement, the arts and music.

Learn more about the culture of this island from Beverley David, senior lecturer of French and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, at the fourth presentation of the College of Letters and Science 2011-2012 Community Lecture Series. The lecture, “Games and Toys of Yesteryear and Today in the Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe,” will be presented Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Pinery Room at the Portage County Library, 1001 Main St., Stevens Point. The talk is free and open to the public.

“My presentation will focus on changes that have taken place over the last 40 years in Guadeloupe.  Some of these changes are natural, given the simple passing of time, while others may be attributable to other phenomena such as globalization and the rapid changes in technology,” said David.

David received her master’s degree in French from the University of British Columbia in Canada and is working toward a doctorate of modern languages in French and Spanish. She teaches courses in French Language, French Literature, French Composition and French for the Professions.
