Hard work and scholarship have earned several students in the College of Fine Arts and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point special honors for achievement:
- Chelsea Betz, a senior vocal performance major from Curtiss, has been cast as Cherubino in La Musica Lirica’s summer production of “Le Nozze di Figaro” in Novafeltria, Italy, which is performed in Italian. Betz also placed second in the senior women’s division of the Wisconsin State National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, won the Alice Peet Faust concerto competition and will sing the lead role in the Department of Music’s spring opera, Ravel’s “The Boy and the Magic Spells.”
- Alexandria Mueller, a senior music major from Stevens Point (and graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High School), has had her own compositions published through Alliance Publications. One of these pieces, “Odyssey,” won the UW-Stevens Point Concert Band competition and was performed by the Concert Band. She works with Music Composition Professor Charles Young.
- Christine Sanderson, a senior vocal performance major from Plover (and graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High School), will participate in Song Fest and an intensive workshop at the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles, Calif., June 28-July 25, . She was selected through a national audition process.
- Stephanie Schlegel, a graphic design student from Plover (and graduate of Stevens Point Area Senior High School), won a Gold Award and the Best of Show ADDY Award at the 2013 American Advertising Federation Fox River Regional show. Her piece, “Fashion Forward,” is a photo-based bound book comparing classic fashion styles with the classic styles and lines of Neenah Paper. She worked with Art Professor Jillian Noble.
- Cast and crew members in the Department of Theatre & Dance production of “The Importance of Being Earnest” were recognized by the American College Theatre Festival. The show received the citation of Distinguished Production of a Modern Classic, earning the cast and crew second place nationwide in this category. Senior theatre design and technology major Emily Billington of Waupaca was one of three students in the nation to be cited for Distinguished Costume Design.
